In a Word ... Perfect

When you see pictures as lovely as those on the VRBO website, it's easy to think that it just can't possibly be that good. Boy were we in for a surprise. This historical cabin has been meticulously restored and beautifully cared for. Close your eyes when you open the front door and take a deep breath, smelling over 100 years of fires in the fireplace, cooking family meals and the original wood of the cabin. Our mornings began with coffee by the river and great fishing, with catches of 5 -7 pound rainbow trout. We are a "catch and release" family and all were returned so that future guests could have the same experience. Our dog was in puppy heaven chasing his ball through the meadow. We enjoyed a great meal in town the first night, but chose to stay in after that as the kitchen was well equipped and our al fresco surroundings were so beautiful with views of the river, cliffs and surrounding forest. This is a truly special place and will be our annual family gathering each summer before everyone heads back to school.

Quaint little gem on on the river

My family and I enjoyed 3 nights at the Retreat at Insmont. I loved the history behind the cabin! The cabin was very cozy and rustic with all the comforts of home. If you want a quiet place to unwind, decompress and relax, then this is the place for you

Mountain tranquility at Denver's doorstep

Just 45 min from Denver lies one of Bailey's best kept secrets. The historic Retreat at Insmont has been exquisitely restored, maintained and loved by people who poured their hearts and souls into the property. When we sought out a cabin for a weekend getaway with our parents, we happened upon the Insmont listing and reserved it. The process was seamless as the owners Pam and Doug Landin are very professional and easy to work with, and are easily contacted if you need assistance before, and throughout your stay. Your getaway at the cabin unfolds like a story, as you walk through the door, read up on the area and the cabin's history from a detailed write-up the Landin's have thoughtfully researched and created, learn details of each piece of the house - and maybe find 7 "cats" while at it; be sure to find new places for these "cats" to hide, and continue the game. Relax with serene valley and river views, quiet mornings, starlit nights with crackling fires, and memories made. Everything about the cabin if pristine and well thought-out, with a full functioning, modern kitchen, three clean rooms, and plenty of space to spread out in. When you leave the cabin, it's the end of a great book that you don't want to end, but you certainly leave with stories to tell, and a smile on your face. The Retreat at Insmont is a hidden jewel in the Denver foothills that anyone will love. Sit back, and enjoy your stay

Fantastic, Unique Getaway

What a wonderful, unique property located just an hour away from Denver! My wife and I spent the first day just discovering all the little aspects of this cabin...from the wood carvings to the various pieces of art work to the spectacular views, people are not exaggerating when they say this place is "enchanted". Learning about the cottage's history only heightened this sense. We plan on moving out of state within the next year, and we've already discussed making the Retreat at Insmont a mainstay for our trips back. Can't recommend highly enough!

Amazing Place full of local history and charm. Places like this are unheard of anymore!

If you are looking for a fantastic place to stay go no further. The Retreat at Insmont is mind blowing. From the moment we got there the property kept us in amazement of times gone by and of current exciting adventures awaiting! It is for anyone from a couples retreat, a place for family or taking grandma and grandpa for the weekend. The river is directly out back and the fishing is great but it is a river and that can change with runoff etc.. The house is decorated with all types of artifacts related to the houses history. If you have kids or are a big kid at heart I strongly encourage you to cut ties open your mind and spend some time at this fantastic place. In the brochure a game in the house is described. You need to find 7 cats in the house. It is a never ending game. It made my kids weekend! They did not want to leave our new adopted cabin! The house and property alone is enough to keep entertained but combine it with the river and all the other local places to go it is overwhelming. We never left the property! PS we only found 5 cats!

Character, Comfort, History, and Beauty

The drive into quaint Bailey, from Frisco was beautiful, and arriving at the Retreat was everything we hoped. This historical cabin welcomed us with it's class and artistic style immediately. The kids bunk room was perfect for our son, the kitchen was rustic yet highly functional and, like the rest of the house, oozing with character. The bedrooms were cozy, lux and artfully decorated. I just say enough good things about the Retreat. I'll just let the awe inspiring property speak for itself when you visit...assuming we haven't booked every available weekend ;) PS fly fisherman enjoy...caught a 15" brown...amazing

Adorable little cabin on the river!

The retreat is an adorable little cabin that sits right off of the river. It has everything modern you could need, but still feels like you've gone back in time to enjoy the outdoors and sit cozy next to a real fire at night. Wellington lake is also close by, we really enjoyed making a trip there! It's so nice to escape for a few days, we'll be back!

The retreat was amazing . It was so perfect for our family with 2 young boys.

Our boys caught 2 19" rainbow and 1 16" brown in the river behind the cabin. The place is so cool in architecture and was very relaxing. Doug the owner was fantastic in accommodating us. It is a once in a lifetime place to go and I have about 1000 pictures to develop because it is so beautiful. Thank you again.

Great relaxing weekend

My husband and I visited the Retreat and Insmont for out anniversary and had a great time. The cabin have everything you would want. The views are amazing and the river neat the cabin was peaceful. Great location - not too far from Denver but far enough to feel like you are away. We will be returning!

Rich experience

Located not more than an hour from Denver, but nestled in the heart of the Rockies. This cabin captures the rich history of the area while providing modern amenities and comforts. Not your average cabin! The area is so much fun to explore whether you are looking for endless hiking trails or just a quick drive to the legendary Coney Island Hot Dog stand (outside of Bailey). An unmatched cabin, surrounded by unparalleled natural beauty. Fun for families, romantic getaways, or individuals looking for a quiet recharging time

Perfect getaway in every way!

So close to Denver and yet another world entirely. We had forgotten how beautiful the milky way is, how much we love to fish, whether you catch anything or not; how fun it is to roast marshmallows sitting by a huge fire, and how wonderful Colorado's solitude is for the soul. We did catch a huge, yes huge! rainbow trout! Our golden, Barley, was in 7th heaven with a whole meadow to call his own. The pair of soaring bald eagles was a bonus. The artistic heritage of Insmont and the beautiful woodwork was a treat. And the cat game! Found 7!

Wooded Paradise

My wife and I stayed here in October 2013 and loved it. The house and property was so peaceful and so removed from everything. We were looking for a place to unwind and soak in the natural beauty. This place was perfect for that. The historic charm of the house was great. If we're even in Colorado again, we will definitely make a point to try to stay here.

Most enjoyable retreat ever!

Our stay at the retreat was a real treat! Not only is the inn amazing but the surrounding landscape provides a nice view of the mountains/lake and lots of interesting art. Inside the inn there are not only are the modern conveniences that make the adventure enjoyable but, more important, this is almost like visiting an art museum...a plethora of artistic touches...around every corner. We loved the fireplace and made a toasty one each morning and evening. I highly recommend this as an option for anyone who wants to get away from the crowd and take a break

Updated and historical beauty and charm!!!

Finding the Retreat was simple and the drive up was breathtaking!! We are so lucky we were able to enjoy it! The Retreat was gorgeous( pictures couldn't even capture all it's beauty) and I loved all the details the former artist added to this property. RIght when you walk in, you have a gourmet yet rustic kitchen and take in the beautiful views from the window facing the river! The furnishings are traditional and rustic and everything feels like an adventure while you are here. Everything was clean and comfortable and gave a calming and inviting feeling as we arrived and as we stayed there! My kids enjoyed hunting around to find the hidden treasures and details in the exterior and loved the bunk room as their very own hideaway! Pay attention to the details in all the wood carvings throughout the Retreat! We enjoyed hiking, fishing, Pine Valley Ranch Park, the cute town of Bailey ( everyone was so helpful there) and celebrating our daughter's Birthday too! The owners were super helpful and the house manual was very detailed too! Our nightly campfires were breathtaking as we star gazed and roasted marshmallows and had fantastic family bonding time. I can't wait to go again in the fall and make more memories! I would HIGHLY recommend this property for your next getaway
